Video Lessons

Session 1 – Introduction and Prologue

In this opening session, Justin and Ross set the tone, vision, and framework for the 11-week Biblical Overview Course. Together, we begin in Genesis 1–11, exploring the beauty of creation, the purpose of humanity, and the devastating reality of the fall. This session lays the foundation for understanding the Bible as one unified story that points to Jesus.

Session 2 – The Promised Kingdom

In this session, Justin and Ross trace God's covenant promises through the lives of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. As the story unfolds, the themes of God's promise, God's presence, and God's kingdom become clearer. Though Abraham's family faces obstacles, delays, and setbacks at every turn, God remains committed to His covenant, laying the foundation for the nation of Israel and ultimately pointing forward to the coming of Jesus.

Session 3 – A Nation is Formed

In this session, Justin and Ross follow Israel's journey from slavery in Egypt to the edge of the Promised Land. Along the way, we see God fulfill His covenant promises by raising up Moses, delivering His people through the Exodus, establishing the Mosaic Covenant, and forming Israel into a nation under His rule. Though Israel repeatedly struggles with fear and unbelief, God remains faithful to His promises and continues to shape His people for His purposes.

Session 4 –Conquest and Settlement

In this session, Justin and Thomas trace Israel’s movement into the Promised Land through the books of Joshua, Judges, Ruth, and the opening chapters of 1 Samuel. We see Israel enter, take, divide, and come to rest in the land God promised to Abraham. Yet even as God proves faithful, the people struggle to trust Him, fully obey Him, and live faithfully in the land He has given them.

Session 5 –The United Monarchy

In this session, Justin and Ross trace the rise of Israel’s monarchy through the reigns of Saul, David, and Solomon. We look at the successes and failures of Israel’s first three kings, the establishment of Jerusalem and the Temple, and God’s covenant with David. Along the way, we explore major themes of kingship, rest, God’s presence, and the growing hope for a better King who would one day perfectly lead God’s people.

Session 6 –The Divide Kingdom

In this session, Ross and Thomas trace the unraveling of Israel’s united monarchy after Solomon and follow the story of the divided kingdoms of Israel and Judah. We look at the rise and failure of their kings, the role of the prophets, the loss of covenant blessings, and the judgment that eventually leads to exile. Along the way, we see God’s continued faithfulness to His covenant with David and the growing hope for a greater King who could finally save and restore His people.

Session 7 –Exile and Return

In this session, Ross and Justin follow Israel into one of the darkest moments of the biblical story: the exile. We look at the fall of Jerusalem, life in Babylon, and the eventual return of God’s people under Persian rule. Along the way, we explore themes of repentance, faithfulness in exile, God’s covenant promises, the preservation of David’s royal line, and the longing for God’s presence to fully return. Even after the people come back to the land, the story leaves us waiting for something greater—a true King, a true Temple, and a deeper restoration still to come.

Session 8 –Between the Testaments

In this session, Justin and Thomas explore the roughly 400 years between the close of the Old Testament and the beginning of the New. We trace the major empires and political changes that shaped the Jewish world, from Persia and Greece to the Maccabees and Rome, and consider what life was like for God’s people under foreign rule. Along the way, we see how God was still at work through the Diaspora, growing messianic expectation and preparing the world for the spread of the gospel. What looked like silence was actually preparation for the next chapter in the biblical story.

Session 9 –Christ

In this session, Justin and Thomas turn to the arrival of Jesus and see how He brings together the major themes and promises of the biblical story. We explore Jesus as the King who announces and demonstrates the kingdom of God, the true Temple who brings us into God’s presence, and the faithful Son who fulfills the covenants with Adam, Abraham, Israel, and David. Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus takes the curses of the old covenants upon Himself and establishes the New Covenant, securing for His people the blessings of God’s kingdom and presence.

Session 10 – Acts & the Church

In this session, Ross and Thomas follow the spread of the gospel from Jerusalem to Judea, Samaria, and eventually to the ends of the earth through the book of Acts. We look at the coming of the Holy Spirit, the birth and growth of the early church, Paul’s missionary work, and the breaking down of ethnic and cultural barriers in the gospel. We also explore several New Testament images for the church and consider what it means to live in the tension of the “already and not yet” as God’s kingdom, presence, and promises continue to unfold through His people.

Session 11 –The Consummation

In this final session, Justin and Ross look ahead to the completion of God’s redemptive story. We explore what it means to live faithfully in the last days, the return and reign of Christ, the final judgment, and the hope of the New Heavens and New Earth. Along the way, we see how the Bible’s major themes of kingdom, presence, and promise reach their fulfillment as Christ triumphs as King, God dwells fully with His people, and the curse of sin is finally and completely reversed.
